Education
Hello! Happy to meet you! My name is Fauzia. I received a B.A. in English from Smith College in 1987, and minored in Government. I also achieved a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Massachusetts. in 1991. I love reading and writing – am well versed in both. I have a wide range of knowledge in language and literature – reading comprehension, writing, proofreading, and vocabulary. I also have a wide knowledge of political science, both American and European. I am very aware of current events and how they relate to academics and the patterns of the past. I am proficient in reading comprehension, essay editing and proof reading. I have basic computer skills and some knowledge of html and excel. I am also competent in history – American, European and World. I have received high scores in these subject certifications with the different tutoring services I belong to. I can also help with research projects and test prep.
Experience
I am currently tutoring through DaDa ABC, which teaches English to Chinese children of all ages. This is giving me [more] experience in teaching as well as cross-cultural communication. My first job after graduate school was in Undergraduate Admissions at Clark University. I met high school students in 5 states, did personal interviews, read applications and made admission evaluations. Of course as is natural, every year I took special interest in a few students, and tutored them in their applications and supported them throughout the process. With this experience, I can provide assistance and guidance to college bound students. Aside from that, my tutoring experience has been largely informal. Starting in high school, I assisted my classmates with assignments - a practice that continues to this day with friends and family. I also assisted my mother (she was an assistant graduate Dean) with her professional writing, both construction and critique. I want to be a tutor because I would like to emulate the teachers I remember to this day. They were the ones who made difficult subjects accessible, easier to understand, and fun. They were always positive, patient and supportive of the student’s challenges and efforts. These lessons form the background of my teaching style. It’s not just about completing assignments but creating and nurturing a love for the subject at hand. I would do my best to make and keep the material interesting and exciting. No one learns well when they're bored. I am just beginning to make it into a full time profession, since I clearly have the background, credentials and personality for it. I have joined the National Tutoring Association and am working on getting my certification through them. Given that, I am more than willing to offer a free consultation/tutoring hour. This would give all parties a chance to meet and evaluate – the most important thing is the student’s benefit. Once a rapport is established, everything is possible.

Hobbies
In my spare time, I try to go the gym daily, alternating cardio and weights. Twice a week I do zumba dance outside in the park. I also like relaxing crafts and do cross-stitch in the evenings. I also maintain an online sales presence through Poshmark and Tradesy. I also like walking outside in the evenings, either with friends or podcasts. The latter keeps me in touch with the world. I listen to NPR pretty much non-stop. I love british drama and have grown up on masterpiece theater. I also am a fan of old sitcoms, the food network and HGTV, especially Fixer Upper. I also love traveling - experiencing different places and cultures. In the U.S. I have been to or lived in about 20 states so far. In addition, I have been to every major city in Canada, England, Ireland, Spain, Turkey, Pakistan (high school) and Mexico (several times). I also have been all over the Caribbean. This year I achieved Global Entry membership in the Trusted Traveler Program through the TSA. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter to you! I am currently available most days, evenings and weekends. Feel free to ask me any questions. I hope we will have the opportunity to work together.
